What’s in a name? Action In Relaxation was a little thought I had about the irony and tension of traveling. To me, it works on many levels. It’s the hurry-up and wait process of sprinting to a bus stop for a bus that’s an hour late. It’s opportunities you get while you’re relaxing on “your vacation” to take a risk; to take action and try windsurfing for the first time, or step out of your comfort zone and share a meal with that local or unfamiliar person you’ve just met. It’s even the action-filled (often stressful) preparation process to arrive at a relaxing destination. It’s relaxing and fake-napping on the most pristine beach you’ve visited in your life, only to realize you’re bored and it’s time for some action: be it swimming, surfing, snorkeling, windsurfing, scuba, and the list goes on (for a while, like pages and pages). We’re made to act. Our acts define us: our intentions, our attitude, our outlook, our values, our lifestyle, or life. So whether it’s action or relaxation, it’s time for some action (so relax and enjoy).
I think AnR is great! (If it isn’t obvious by now) It teaches us to be resilient, patient (which is tough for me), calm, composed, polite, and relaxed BUT ready to go at any moment, make a move, seek the unknown, and embrace risk.
So what’s in a name? Not much. It just popped into my head; I liked the sound, thought it seemed catchy, and think it’d look good on a t-shirt someday. After all, if you can’t sell it, then why make it.

Why this blog? I’ve enjoyed posting pictures and videos on Facebook, emailing update letters and most frequently staying in contact with all of you in “real time” via the wonderful communication resources of Gmail/Skype/Gchat/GoogleVoice/Facebook/Twitter/Telegram/Courier/Ocean-Vesseled-Bottle-Messages, so I figured why not combine all of these in one source and then some + + +. The BIGGEST MOTIVATOR for me has been the FEEDBACK from people who sometimes use the common phrase “I’m jealous” but seem to be communicating: what you’re doing is fascinating/entertaining/irresponsible/crazy/stupid/fun and I hope to do it someday soon, or join you on your adventure, or in this adventure we call life. I hope to convey the message that, “YES WE CAN” in the words of Big O (I might get some flack for that one). This life is meant to be lived connectively and shared with others and I look forward to “doing life together” (even if it’s from 10,000 miles away). Please, Please, please comment/critique/encourage/criticize/contribute because I want to know what you’re thinking, and feed off of it (like some sort of stomach worm parasite).
What don’t you want? I don’t want this blog to become a Tyler Elick ego trip. Yes I am a guy, and yes I do have an ego (some people will attest to that fact, with plenty of evidence) that I try to keep in check as much as possible. I’m hoping to generate content that sparks ideas and interest that can be shared through comments and in discussion both online and in your own personal lives. I’m no philosopher or theologian or author or mentor or doctor or scientist; which is great, because it means I get to say what I want, and just be me. Boring or fun, creative or kooky, awesome or delusional. I hope you read, view, watch, interact, share, and enjoy this Reality Entertainment more than some random Reality TV series about people you will never see in person, talk to, think about, or care about in a month.
